Nancy Ward was born in 1740. She became a hero in 1755 in the Creek and Cherokee Battle of Taliwa.
She was named “Beloved Woman” and had power of clemency over prisoners, saving the lives of many white settlers.
A cape and wand made from the feathers of a white swan was given to Nancy Ward by the Cherokee people. The cape was considered the appropriate regalia for her station as the Beloved mother.
It was said that if she appeared holding her feathered wand aloft, Nancy Ward had the power and moral authority to stop a war.
